A man stood trial Tuesday in northern Sweden over what authorities call the country's worst neighbor dispute. The Haparanda District Court heard charges of harassment dating back to last autumn.

The prosecutor accused the man of exposing himself, throwing objects into his neighbor's yard, and using offensive language. Joseph Ricken told the court photographic and video evidence exists.

The defendant admitted showing his buttocks to the neighbors but denied criminal behavior. He claimed the neighbors provoked his reactions through their own conduct.

His defense lawyer Andreas Sakko argued his client also became a crime victim. Sakko pointed to the hostile tone both parties used against each other.

The alleged victims maintain they never provoked the man. Matti, one complainant, previously stated his right to defend himself verbally and physically when visited earlier this year.

Court records show the defendant received an eight-year prison sentence in 2009 for axing a neighbor in the head. Several family members also received prison time for involvement in that incident.

This case highlights how minor disputes can escalate dramatically in isolated communities. The court will deliver its verdict on November 18.
