Swedish food prices dropped 0.8% in September compared to August. This marks the first time since March 2024 that prices have declined for two consecutive months. Statistics Sweden (SCB) released the new data on Thursday.
Food price analyst Frida Stark commented on the trend. She said in a statement that falling food prices helped drive down overall inflation.
The overall price level remained unchanged in September. Some categories still became more expensive. Clothing and accommodation costs rose compared to August.
Sweden's inflation rate measured by KPIF fell to 3.1% in September. It was 3.2% in August. KPIF is Sweden's consumer price index with fixed interest rates.
Food prices remain 3.3% higher than September 2023. Coffee and dairy products saw particularly sharp annual increases.
Two straight months of food price declines offer some relief to Swedish households. But prices remain substantially higher than last year across many essentials.
