Swedish police have launched multiple investigations after teenagers in Stockholm required hospital treatment from drinking counterfeit alcohol. Authorities issued urgent warnings about dangerous 'vodka cars' ahead of the autumn school break.
Young people fell ill in Nacka and Tyresö on Saturday evening. Another incident occurred during a Friday party in Vallentuna. Blood tests confirmed isopropanol poisoning in several patients.
All affected teenagers recovered by Sunday and were discharged from care. Juan Figueroa Sepulveda, head physician at Maria Youth Clinic, called the situation unusual.
He said in a statement, 'I've worked nearly 30 years and never seen this. Maybe single cases, but never so many at once.'
Police say it's too early to determine if the cases are connected. 'Vodka cars' refer to illegal mobile alcohol sales that sometimes target underage drinkers.
This coordinated response shows how seriously authorities take underage alcohol poisoning. The timing before school break suggests preventative measures are needed immediately.
