The Västra Götaland region in western Sweden appears ready to abandon its troubled Millennium patient record system. Regional board chair Helén Eliasson confirmed the administration's recommendation carries substantial weight.

A regional coordination group now advocates for a modular system instead. This follows Millennium's complete failure during implementation last year.

The opposition parties have already endorsed the recommendation. These include the Moderates, Christian Democrats, Centre Party and Liberals.

Eliasson stated she doesn't believe Millennium represents the right path forward. She said the democratic process must run its course first, but acknowledged officials advise against continuing with Millennium.

Her assessment indicates modular solutions will become the future direction. The region's board will formally address the matter in December.

This potential system change affects Sweden's second-largest healthcare region. Västra Götaland serves approximately 1.7 million residents across western Sweden.

The move signals growing dissatisfaction with centralized digital health solutions. Regional authorities appear to favor more flexible, adaptable systems following Millennium's high-profile failure.
