Food will become cheaper through reduced VAT rates. Workers will keep more of their earnings thanks to increased employment tax deductions. Preschool fees will also be lowered.

Small business owner Anna Palmqvist told SVT, "It's important to consider the overall picture for everyone in the country and how to distribute the budget in the best way."

The government presented the 2026 election year budget on Monday morning. Most of the funding focuses on strengthening household economies through various tax reductions.

SVT reporters took to the streets in Stockholm to ask voters about the proposals. Their responses are captured in video interviews available above.

What do Swedish taxpayers think about these changes? The budget aims to put more money back in people's pockets during the pre-election period.

The Financial Policy Council chairman described the budget challenge as a "massive uphill battle." The government's plan now moves to parliamentary review.
