Traffic accidents killed 65 people in work-related incidents during 2024. New statistics from Swedish transport authorities reveal this troubling trend.
About one-third of the victims were employees. The remaining two-thirds were other road users.
Roberto Maiorana, director general of the Swedish Transport Administration, said in a statement that traffic accidents rank among the most common causes of death during work hours.
He claims death rates could drop by roughly 50 percent with preventive measures. These include using seat belts, obeying speed limits, and using vehicle safety technology.
Sweden typically ranks high in global road safety comparisons. These numbers show even safe countries face serious challenges with work-related traffic deaths.
The statistics highlight a clear gap between Sweden's general road safety performance and workplace transportation risks. Employers and employees both need to address this disconnect.
