Tryg has sent nearly 30,000 text messages to customers in areas at risk of storm-force gusts ahead of stormy weather in the night before Sunday. Around 22,000 of the warnings went to customers in Vestjylland, the company said.
DMI's latest forecast says the wind will increase to fresh wind to gale, with gusts up to storm strength. At the coasts, gusts may locally reach hard or storm-force gale, with gusts up to strong storm. Tryg said the aim was to advise customers how damage can be prevented while there is still time to secure house and garden.
Claims director Carsten Hvass-Nielsen of Tryg said in a press release: “When it storms, we see damage to roofs, fences and outbuildings, and fallen trees and loose objects can cause great damage to both buildings and cars. He added: “Trampolines, garden furniture and rubbish bins in particular can be taken by the wind. Tryg recommends securing loose items, moving garden furniture, pots, grill and rubbish bins indoors or into shelter, and securing trampolines and other larger objects that cannot be moved.
On Bornholm, duty officer Michael Grønbech-Dam of Bornholm emergency preparedness urged garden owners to use Saturday's sunshine. “We advise people to pack up their trampolines and garden furniture and make sure it is somewhere it cannot fly around,” he said. “It's fine weather now, so I hope many are out collecting their garden furniture and parasols and whatever else people have standing. It's the last chance today before they are over at the neighbour's tomorrow. He also urged homeowners to check roof tiles and terraces, saying loose objects on private grounds are the biggest danger this time. The emergency service has not prepared extra measures because no elevated water level has been warned, but it is ready if something happens. “But we are ready if something happens. We are always prepared. We take one hour at a time and of course follow the weather forecast,” Michael Grønbech-Dam said.
