Danish broadcaster TV 2 has dismissed four employees and shut down its investigative reporting team. The changes affect the news department at one of Denmark's major television networks.
News director Ulla Pors announced the restructuring in an internal memo on Tuesday. The document outlined the staffing changes and departmental reorganization.
Four staff members received termination notices. Several other employees will move to new positions within the news division. Some workers will take on different roles and responsibilities.
The company's staff representative confirmed the changes. Lennart Sten expressed sadness about losing valued colleagues.
He told industry publication Journalisten that even small cuts create major life disruptions for affected individuals. The news department employs about 650 people total.
The layoffs result from a strategic shift toward producing larger but fewer documentaries. TV 2 will now focus more heavily on investigative and exposé-style documentaries.
The network plans to emphasize its "Operation X" investigative program and crime coverage. It will also assign more investigative resources to daily news journalism.
This reorganization means dissolving the current investigative reporting unit. Those staff members will join a new department focused on major Danish news agendas.
According to the internal memo, investigative journalism will either appear in major documentaries or respond quickly to breaking news stories.
The network will no longer produce softer factual programming. TV 2 News program "Business Class" will also end permanently.
TV 2 plans to develop new digital television formats. The changes include creating five new positions focused on digital content development.
This restructuring reflects the ongoing challenges facing traditional broadcasters as they adapt to digital media consumption. The move from dedicated investigative units to integrated news teams shows how media companies are trying to maintain quality journalism while controlling costs.
