Finnish technology company Valmet will begin change negotiations on November 10. The talks could lead to temporary layoffs for more than 950 employees.
Most affected workers are located in Jyväskylä, Tikkurila, Vantaa, and Raisio. These cities host major Valmet manufacturing facilities in central and southern Finland.
The negotiations cover staff in the Packaging and Paper Machines business unit and P&P Manufacturing unit employees. This includes workers from Jyväskylä's machine hall and foundry operations.
Valmet stated the planned layoffs would be temporary. The company will determine final numbers and targeting during negotiations.
The layoffs are scheduled for implementation in the first half of 2026. Valmet currently employs approximately 6,000 people across Finland.
This represents one of Finland's largest potential workforce reductions in recent months. The company faces ongoing challenges in the global paper machinery market as demand patterns shift.
What do these layoffs mean for Finland's industrial sector? They highlight continuing pressures on traditional manufacturing industries despite Finland's strong technology reputation.
