A woman in her 30s was found dead at a residence in central Haugesund on Friday evening, following reports of loud disturbances from neighbors. Ivar Harris Christensen, who lives nearby, described seeing a single police officer rush out of the apartment before a large emergency response arrived minutes later. He said the scene quickly filled with flashing blue lights and personnel moving urgently in and out of the building.
Christensen recounted that other neighbors had heard screaming from the address earlier that night. Once authorities set up a perimeter and brought out a stretcher carrying what appeared to be a lifeless person, residents feared the worst. Police confirmed Saturday morning that a woman in her 40s has been charged with homicide. The two women were related, though police declined to provide further details about their connection.
An autopsy began Saturday morning, and the suspect is scheduled for questioning later the same day. She remains in custody in Haugesund. Police spokesperson Unni Byberg Malmin stated that technical and tactical investigations are ongoing at the scene, including witness interviews and area canvassing. No weapon was seized, but other evidence found at the location formed the basis for the arrest. Haugesund Mayor Nils Konrad Bua expressed condolences to the family and confirmed the municipality has not activated a crisis team.
