Police in Eastern Uusimaa have taken a woman into custody after a man was injured in a stabbing at an apartment building in Kerava on Tuesday morning. The man was taken to hospital for treatment, and police say his injuries weren't life-threatening, according to Yle and Iltalehti.
Officers were called to Päivölänrinne at about 6:20 a.m. after a neighbor reported a violent situation, according to the Eastern Uusimaa police department. Police said the call concerned violence between a couple living in the building, both under 30. Several police patrols and emergency medical units responded.
Detective Chief Inspector Anssi Murto said the man suffered a single stab wound. “Fortunately, the other party's injuries were not life-threatening. It was a single stab wound,” Murto said.
Police seized one bladed weapon and have questioned the injured man but haven't questioned the person in custody.
Police suspect both parties. The woman is suspected of attempted homicide and the man of assault, Murto said. “The preliminary investigation has been started at Eastern Uusimaa police, and at the moment the case is being investigated as attempted homicide in the case of one party and as assault in the case of the other,” he said.
The motive is still unclear, and police are looking into possible involvement of intoxicants. Police said the criminal titles may be specified as the investigation proceeds.
