A group of elementary school-aged girls is causing concern in Helsinki's Vuosaari district. The girls reportedly behave disruptively toward random passersby.
Witnesses describe the group as having 3-7 members aged approximately 10-11 years old. One woman told authorities that her elderly mother verbally intervened when the girls were shouting near a shopping center.
The situation escalated when the children surrounded the older woman. They took her hat, threatened her, and spat on her head. The girls then followed her all the way to the stairwell of her apartment building.
The elderly woman now fears going outside, according to her daughter's account. Another woman reported being harassed by the same group while riding the metro.
"They were terribly noisy, pushing each other and squabbling," the metro passenger recalled. When she addressed their behavior for the second time, one girl snatched the woman's hat and threw it on the metro floor.
Police have registered three separate incidents matching descriptions of this group. All cases involve similar disruptive behavior from young girls in the Vuosaari area.
This pattern of aggression from such young children raises questions about supervision and youth behavior in urban areas. The repeated incidents suggest this is more than isolated misbehavior.
