Region Syddanmark has filed a formal complaint with Denmark’s Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet, after several hospitals in Southern Denmark discovered that Dao had dropped off post, including medical test results, in unstaffed lobbies and hallways over weekends. According to Kurt Espersen, director of Region Syddanmark, this violates their delivery agreement. Dao was given access cards specifically to deliver mail to secure, non-public locations. "It’s unacceptable," Espersen said in a press release. "We provided them with access so post wouldn’t end up in places like empty lobbies where anyone could take it." The misplaced mail included diagnostic samples and health-related documents, raising serious concerns about potential breaches of personal data security. While there’s no evidence yet that the information was misused, the region reported the incidents due to the inherent risk. In response, hospitals have implemented temporary measures, like staff conducting scheduled mail checks at known drop-off spots, to protect patient safety and data integrity. Espersen also confirmed that Dao’s top management has been summoned to an urgent meeting. "I wish this wasn’t necessary, our staff are already stretched thin, but we can’t compromise on patient or data security," he said. He added that he expects Dao to resolve these delivery failures immediately.
