A major cable network disruption has affected several districts in Oulu, Finland, following an early Sunday power outage. Finnish telecommunications provider DNA confirmed the issue stems from a widespread electricity failure that struck the city around 5:03 AM. The outage impacted both cable broadband and cable TV services across neighborhoods including Oulunsuu, Värtö, Maikkula, Kaukovainio, Hiirosen, Kiviniemi, Kaakkuri, and Metsokangas.
DNA stated that repair work began immediately and expressed apologies for the inconvenience. The company initially estimated full service restoration by 10:00 AM. Meanwhile, Oulu Energy reported that up to 23,815 customers lost power at the peak of the outage—nearly one-fifth of its customer base, according to the Energy Industry’s Power Outage Map. Repairs were completed by 5:24 AM, with power fully restored to all affected households.
During the outage, Oulu Energy advised residents to turn off electrical appliances before power returned to avoid safety risks. Their website warned that devices left on could automatically restart when electricity resumed. With outdoor temperatures around minus 12 degrees Celsius during the early morning hours, the disruption posed additional challenges for local residents.
