Twelve people are being examined by medical personnel in Oslo on Saturday night. The first emergency call reported smoke in the fifth-floor stairwell. Police and firefighters responded quickly, and several residents had already evacuated themselves by the time help arrived. Firefighters entered the building using breathing apparatus. According to Per-Ivar Iversen, operations leader at Oslo Police District, the fire was located in the stairwell, not inside any apartment, and had been extinguished. Heavy smoke remained in the stairwell and had spread into some apartments. By 11:22 p.m., Iversen confirmed the fire appeared intentional, stating that a stroller parked in the shared hallway had been deliberately set ablaze. Later that night, firefighters checked every apartment on the building’s fifth, sixth, and seventh floors to assess smoke levels, and all residents were safe. Initially, police reported three people affected by smoke inhalation. By 2 a.m. Sunday, that number rose to twelve. Operations leader Øyvind Hammervold said all twelve individuals were taken to hospitals or urgent care centers for evaluation, primarily for smoke inhalation, but none appeared seriously injured. Police received the initial fire report at 10:52 p.m. Saturday.
