A 19-year-old man from Grenland has been charged with the rape of three children under the age of 14 and has been remanded in custody for four weeks, Telemarksavisa reported, according to Aftenposten.
The ruling comes from the Nedre Telemark District Court. "The case concerns very serious sexual offences against three children under 14, which are said to have taken place as recently as autumn 2026," the court states in the detention order.
NRK reported that the man was arrested on Saturday. The court gave heavy weight to securing the ongoing investigation and preventing the destruction of evidence when it ordered four weeks of detention with a ban on letters and visits.
Defence lawyer Frank Gajic Tveit said the suspect has been formally interviewed by police but has not yet approved the interview. "No question of guilt has been put to him yet. He has explained his relationship to the aggrieved parties and intends to continue answering questions from the police," Tveit said.
The three children have not yet been interviewed. They will be interviewed at Barnehuset in Tønsberg in the coming weeks. Police will also interview several witnesses in the case.
