A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the fatal shooting in Bagarmossen in southern Stockholm, the Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a press release, according to Aftonbladet.
The man had been detained in his absence since Friday, when a man in his 25s was shot in connection with a car in a residential area in Bagarmossen. The victim died later. Expressen reported that the murder took place on 23 October.
A large police operation and a hunt for the suspect were launched after the shooting.
"An intensive investigation is under way and police were today able to arrest a 36-year-old man who since yesterday had been detained in his absence, on probable cause suspected of murder," said senior prosecutor Rasmus Öman, who leads the preliminary investigation.
By Saturday at the latest, the prosecutor must decide whether to request that the man be remanded in custody or released. The motive behind the shooting is unclear, and investigators are examining whether it may have been misdirected. "Among several theories is that the target was someone else, but it is too early to draw any conclusions," Öman said earlier, according to SVT.
