Aalborg University has reversed course on planned program closures following a major education reform. The university's humanities faculty adjusted its recommendations after reviewing degree offerings.
The musicology bachelor's and master's programs will remain open for enrollment. University officials noted they will explore deeper integration between musicology and music therapy programs during Third Quarter 2026.
International Business Communication in English also escapes cancellation. The master's program will continue as a shorter 75-ECTS degree.
Dean Rasmus Antoft explained the reasoning in a university statement. He emphasized the importance of preserving business-focused language programs and maintaining music therapy's regional healthcare contributions.
Despite these reprieves, five master's programs still face termination once current students graduate:
• Information Science
• Interactive Digital Media
Three related bachelor's programs will also stop accepting new students starting September 2026. These closures reflect ongoing adjustments to Denmark's higher education system following recent reforms.
While saving popular programs demonstrates responsiveness to public concern, the continued cuts reveal tough choices facing Nordic universities. They must balance specialized education with financial sustainability amid changing student demands.
