Repair work on the collapsed road section in Haapamäki, Keuruu is nearly finished. The road could reopen to traffic as early as this week if all goes well. Janne Jaatinen from the Central Finland Centre for Economic Development confirmed the progress.
Work crews are on the final stretch of repairs. The embankment is very close to completion, and road surfacing is planned for the end of this week.
After the road reopens, finishing work will continue at the base of the embankment. These final touches will not affect traffic flow. Officials will announce the exact reopening time separately.
The third and final layer of pavement will be applied next summer. This phased approach ensures immediate access while completing permanent repairs later.
Keuruu is a municipality in Central Finland with approximately 9,500 residents. The road collapse disrupted local travel routes and required immediate attention from transportation authorities.
The swift repair response demonstrates Finland's effective infrastructure maintenance system. Local residents and businesses will welcome the restored connectivity after dealing with detours and delays.
