A commanding officer at Karup Air Station faces fraud charges for allegedly stealing military funds. The officer stands accused of embezzling 74,700 Danish kroner intended for defense purposes.

Prosecutors say he funneled money through a military sports association into his personal bank account. The scheme allegedly operated for five years until summer 2021.

He also faces accusations of manipulating booking systems for shooting ranges. This reportedly cost the defense ministry 98,500 kroner in lost rental income.

The Danish Ministry of Defence Audit Corps, which serves as military prosecutors, seeks a prison sentence. Court documents detail how the officer diverted payments from police rentals of weapon storage facilities.

Money meant for the defense ministry went directly to his personal account or the sports association's account. He then transferred association funds to himself, prosecutors claim.

Karup Air Station fraud case involves multiple allegations beyond the main embezzlement charge. The officer faces six additional counts of misconduct and duty neglect under military law.

Between 2021 and 2023, he allegedly booked station shooting ranges for private events without proper billing. Hunting associations and other groups used facilities without paying required fees.

The officer used booking codes belonging to the Defence Health Service to avoid generating invoices. This manipulation also resulted in 5,000 kroner in unnecessary personnel costs for the health service.

He denies all charges. A judge and two jurors at Viborg Court will determine his fate when the case opens on November 3.

This case highlights ongoing challenges in military financial oversight. The extended duration of the alleged fraud suggests systemic vulnerabilities that officials will need to address.
