An elderly man collided head-on with another car on Frederiksborgvej at Veddelev on Thursday morning, and police believe a sudden illness behind the wheel caused the crash. Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi told Ritzau that officers presume the man became unwell before the collision, which happened at 8.05, according to TV 2 and Berlingske.
Veddelev lies on the eastern side at the bottom of Roskilde Fjord. The other car was driven by a younger woman, who was taken to hospital with injuries that police say are not life-threatening. The elderly man was driven to hospital under police escort, based on the presumption that his condition is critical, according to communications employee Charlotte Tornquist.
Police have closed Route 6 around the accident site while they investigate the circumstances more closely. A diversion has been set up so traffic is led around the area. Police work at the scene is expected to be finished by late morning on Thursday.
The crash is being handled by Midt- og Vestsjællands Politi, which gave the details to news agency Ritzau.
