Østjyllands Politi has arrested the father featured in the TV 2 documentary 'Fars lille pige', police confirmed to TV 2. The arrest came after police reopened their investigation into suspected sexual abuse of his youngest daughter, 25-year-old Vivi, according to Ekstra Bladet.
In a message on Politi Update, Østjyllands Politi said it had arrested a 65-year-old man charged with sexual abuse committed against his daughter, who was around 12 years old at the time. According to the charge, the abuse took place about 13 years ago. The father is expected to appear at a preliminary court hearing on Wednesday.
Police said the alleged victim has been interviewed and that they have reviewed 'various material'.
The case was reopened on the basis of new information from the documentary, in which Vivi and her two older sisters describe abuse they say their father committed. In the programme, the oldest daughter, Sarah Sommer, resumes contact with her father Christian and records him secretly in an attempt to get him to confess the sexual abuse she says he committed.
The sisters' appointed counsel, Mai-Brit Storm Thygesen, told TV 2 she is 'very satisfied' that police have now arrested the father. 'The three women are very happy that the police have taken the case seriously,' she said. The father's defence lawyer has previously stated that his client denies all the accusations, and TV 2 said it was working to obtain a comment from him.
