A month has passed since a major fire broke out in a warehouse in Gufunes, and investigators still lack crucial technical data needed to determine the cause. The Reykjavík Metropolitan Police’s investigation unit continues to await findings from its technical division, according to Hildur Rún Björnsdóttir, police spokesperson at the Vínlandsleid station. She confirmed in an interview with Vísir that the inquiry remains active but no timeline exists for when the technical report will be delivered.
The fire ignited on the afternoon of January 12 in a warehouse leased by production company Truenorth from the City of Reykjavík. Flames burned into the night before emergency crews brought the blaze under control. Authorities took possession of the site the following morning, January 13, to begin their forensic examination.
While the exact origin of the fire remains undetermined, concerns about the building’s electrical systems had been raised two years earlier. At that time, a group of individuals warned about the poor condition of the electrical wiring inside the structure. No further details about those warnings or their recipients have been released as part of the ongoing investigation.
