Bottled water sold out at supermarkets in Hallstahammar after bacteria were detected in the drinking water and residents were urged to boil it, SVT reported.
Asmat Tamer was among those hunting for bottled water, filling his car with water for close to 500 kronor. "I hope it lasts the whole week," he said.
On Wednesday, the first samples came back showing no signs of coliform bacteria. "The results need to be confirmed through further sampling. The boiling recommendation still applies," the municipality wrote on its website.
According to Mälarenergi, three approved samples in a row are required before the recommendation can be lifted.
Lidl, Matpiraten and Ica Supermarket in Hallstahammar told SVT that their bottled water sold out after the bacteria alert and that the stores have chased extra deliveries. They are now preparing for continued high demand for the rest of the week. "We'll load in as much water as we can," said Patrik Wirlén, owner of Matpiraten.
