Hankasalmi Council Approves Tax Rates and Additional Funding

Hankasalmi municipal council has confirmed tax rates will remain unchanged for the coming year. The decision came during Monday's council meeting in the central Finland municipality.

Income tax will stay at 9.4 percent next year. Property tax rates also remain steady with the general rate at 1.3 percent and land property tax at the same level.

For residential buildings used as permanent homes, the tax rate is 0.6 percent. Vacation homes and other non-permanent residences face a 1.2 percent tax rate. Power plant buildings carry the highest property tax at 3.1 percent.

The council also approved additional budget allocations for municipal services. These funds will support local infrastructure and community programs throughout Hankasalmi.

Municipal tax decisions in Finland typically occur annually, with councils determining rates for their regions. Hankasalmi's choice to maintain current levels suggests budget stability rather than major fiscal changes.

Keeping taxes steady may help residents and businesses plan their finances with more certainty. The approach contrasts with some Finnish municipalities that are increasing rates to cover rising costs.
