Kristinn Þór Seeks Second Term in Fjarðabyggð Council

Kristinn Þór Jónasson, a municipal representative for Iceland's Independence Party, has announced his candidacy for the second seat on the party's list in Fjarðabyggð ahead of the upcoming spring local elections. The final selection for the top six positions on the ballot will be decided at a representatives' meeting this Saturday. In his announcement, Kristinn Þór expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him during his current term and said he wants to continue contributing to make Fjarðabyggð strong for the future and an attractive place to live. He first joined the town council in 2022 when the Independence Party secured four elected representatives. Kristinn Þór works as service manager for Eimskip at Mjóeyrarhöfn port and was born and raised in Eskifjörður. He is one of three candidates vying for the second spot on the list, along with Heimir Snær Gylfason and Bryngeir Ágúst Margeirsson. Local elections in Iceland determine leadership for municipalities like Fjarðabyggð, which includes several fjord communities in the Eastern Region. These councils manage community planning, infrastructure, and public services that directly affect residents' daily lives and the area's environmental sustainability.
