The political alliance Vor til vinstri, or Spring to the Left, is now calling for individuals interested in running in the upcoming Reykjavik city council elections. Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir will lead the joint candidate list formed through a coalition with Vinstri græn, or the Left-Green Movement. The alliance plans to present its unified list this spring. Vinstri græn has seen nearly a 20% increase in local membership over the past six weeks. According to an announcement from the party, around 400 new members have joined since the start of the year. Membership in the Reykjavik branch now stands at approximately 2,500 people. Vinstri græn is currently holding a primary to select candidates for the top three spots allocated to their party on the shared list. Eight individuals have already applied, and voting will take place next weekend. The coalition agreement specifies that Vinstri græn representatives will occupy positions two, three, and six on the combined list. Vor til vinstri candidates will fill positions four and five. Additional seats will be filled using a traditional alternating list format. The alliance emphasized inclusivity in its public call, stating it seeks candidates with diverse backgrounds who support values of economic and social justice, community welfare, and active participation in the movement’s political work.
