Løten Murder Case: Convicted Woman Seeks Release

The woman convicted of killing Ole Andreas Sønstvedt has requested release from custody. She filed the request during a new detention hearing on Thursday.

The court extended her custody without a hearing. She will remain detained until January 22 according to the detention order.

In July, the 44-year-old received a 16-year prison sentence for murder. She killed, dismembered, and burned Sønstvedt's remains in a fire pit on her Løten farm. The crime occurred on December 31, 2023.

Løten is a municipality in eastern Norway's Innlandet county, about 130 kilometers north of Oslo.

The woman has consistently denied involvement in the murder. She claims three unknown persons committed the crime. The court dismissed her story as fabricated.

Her appeal case begins at Eidsivating Court of Appeal on February 10, 2026. The court has allocated 16 days for the proceedings.

The convicted woman's continued denial despite overwhelming evidence suggests she maintains her original position. This could complicate the appeal process scheduled for early 2026.
