Danish police arrested two men on Thursday for allegedly assisting in a planned murder attempt in Værløse. The arrests occurred in July, but authorities continued their investigation.
Officials from the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) made the announcement. Both suspects have connections to criminal gang environments.
Police charged the men with preparing a loaded gun for a 15-year-old Swedish boy. Authorities believe the teenager was recruited to travel from Sweden to Denmark specifically to carry out a contract killing.
NSK investigators stated the men prepared a loaded pistol with ammunition before July 1. They later delivered the weapon to the Swedish teenager.
The planned murder never happened. Police arrested the 15-year-old boy and two other men before the attack could occur.
Henrik Andersen, a police inspector with NSK, commented on the case. "Based on persistent and thorough investigation, we have today been able to arrest two additional people in a serious case of planned murder attempt in Værløse from July," he said in a statement.
Andersen called it "despicable" when children and young people are exploited to commit serious crimes. "Therefore, we are very focused on going after all links in the crime chain," he added.
The investigation continues, and police cannot rule out further arrests. The case highlights ongoing concerns about criminal networks recruiting minors across Nordic borders.
The arrested men will appear before the Court in Lyngby on Thursday at 2 PM. The prosecution will request a closed-door hearing for the constitutional interrogation.
If approved, the public will not hear the men's statements or details about police evidence. This is common in Denmark for sensitive organized crime cases.
Danish authorities appear determined to dismantle criminal networks that exploit young people. The cross-border nature of this case shows how gang activities span Nordic countries.
