Traffic on Highway 4 at Konginkangas in Äänekoski will shift to a new passing lane section starting November 4. The entire highway stretch between Konginkangas and Kalaniemi will then be open for traffic.
Project manager Jarmo Niskanen said in a statement that the project has reached the point where all traffic can move to a significantly safer and smoother highway. The new infrastructure should improve travel times and reduce congestion on this important transport route.
Highway 4 serves as a crucial connection between central Finland and southern regions. The addition of passing lanes addresses longstanding safety concerns on this busy corridor.
The timing appears strategic with winter approaching, as improved road conditions could help prevent seasonal accidents. Local businesses will likely benefit from enhanced transportation efficiency.
