Helga Sigrún Sigurjónsdóttir says she considers herself fortunate that her injuries were not more severe after an accident last Friday. She was riding her bicycle in Laugardalur when she collided with an electric scooter that was lying across the bike path. The scooter had been placed in such a way that it blended into the adjacent pedestrian walkway. Helga did not suffer any broken bones but is nonetheless in considerable pain and has remained bedridden since the incident.

In a conversation with Vísir, Helga stated that the lighting conditions in Laugardalur were adequate at the time of the accident. However, she emphasized that the scooter lacked any reflectors, making it difficult to see despite her bicycle being equipped with two lights. She also mentioned that the weather was extremely cold, and she had covered her face to protect against wind chill. This action limited her field of vision and did not help her avoid the obstacle.

After falling onto the street, Helga was able to stand up on her own without assistance. Her husband later came to pick her up. Her bicycle sustained damage in the fall but has since been sent in for repairs. The scooter involved in the incident was unlit and improperly positioned on the shared path, contributing directly to the collision.
