A person fell from a height in a serious work accident on the Rogfast tunnel project in Rogaland, police said. The accident was reported at 10:16.
Police operations leader Steinar Knudsen confirmed to NRK that the accident was serious. Health personnel at the scene worked to stabilise the person for transport to hospital. Kjell HÃ¥vard Belsvik, project manager for Rogfast, said the person had been brought out of the tunnel.
He declined to say what type of work was being done when the accident happened. "I won't go into detail on that. Everything is now being set in motion to map out what happened," he said.
Belsvik said the first step is to take care of the injured person, and the next step is to establish what happened.
The Rogfast project will provide a ferry-free road connection on the E39 between the north and south of Rogaland under the Boknafjorden. The 26.7-kilometre tunnel will be the world's longest and deepest at 392 metres when it is finished. NRK contacted the contractor Implenia, which holds the contract together with Stangeland.
The company referred to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the police for statements on the accident.
