The Icelandic advocacy group Rósin has withdrawn from the Social Democratic Alliance’s representative council in Reykjavík. Deputy chair Guðný Maja Riba stated the decision stems from dissatisfaction that the group’s chair, Guðmundur Ingi Þóroddsson, was denied the seventh spot on the party’s candidate list for the upcoming election. Guðný emphasized this move does not reflect a shift in Rósin’s political stance or a rejection of the Social Democratic Alliance as a whole. Instead, she described it as a direct response to the council’s refusal to include Guðmundur Ingi, who is both Rósin’s chair and their endorsed candidate in the primary selection process. “It really hurts to feel like they’re pushing Guðmundur out,” she said. “They’re not listening to people who want someone with experience on that list.” She argued the final candidate list should accurately reflect Icelandic society and claimed the current version fails to do so. By stepping away from the council, Rósin now has full freedom to manage its own campaign messaging. When asked about potential next steps, Guðný said it remains unclear what form their independent efforts might take, but confirmed Guðmundur Ingi remains highly sought after within their ranks.
