Emergency crews are battling a major fire at a row house building on Raadinkatu in Turku, Finland. The Southwest Finland Rescue Department confirmed the blaze broke out late Friday night, with the first alert received around 11:30 p.m. As of early Saturday morning, at least 30 emergency units were on site actively fighting the flames. The fire has completely destroyed one half of a two-part row house complex, which includes three residential apartments totaling 357 square meters. According to Sebastian Holm, the rescue department’s duty officer, all 12 people inside those apartments managed to evacuate safely, complicating initial response efforts. Cold weather is slowing down firefighting operations, but authorities say the fire is not expected to spread to neighboring properties. The two halves of the row house complex are separated by a fire wall, which appears to have contained the damage. Residents of the unaffected half were also evacuated as a precaution, though their section only suffered smoke damage. Firefighters estimate suppression work will continue for several more hours, with road disruptions ongoing in the area due to emergency vehicle presence and water operations.
