Two children and the family's dogs escaped a fire on the upper floor of a two-storey detached house in Sälinkää in Mäntsälä on Wednesday, the Central Uusimaa Rescue Department said. No one was injured, according to Yle.
The younger child, aged 12, was in the room where the fire started. As they left, the 12-year-old closed the room's door, which slowed the fire's spread. The other, older child was also in the building.
The alarm came shortly after 11.
"That's exactly what should be done if a fire breaks out and the people in the room have been rescued. Great action," duty fire chief Jarmo Myllymäki said.
Rescue services quickly extinguished the fire and cleared the premises. The upper floor suffered smoke damage and is not currently habitable, Helsingin Sanomat reported. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
