The Venstre board in the Aalborg Nord constituency has resigned after MP Preben Bang Henriksen was expelled from the party's parliamentary group. Constituency chair Pernille Sloth Christensen told TV 2 Nord and DR that the decision followed an extraordinary board meeting on Wednesday evening, according to Ekstra Bladet and Berlingske.

"There is no doubt that, overall, there really is frustration and disappointment, also with the chairmanship's handling and leadership," she said. "We very much agree it could have been done better. According to DR, the board steps down at an extraordinary general assembly in mid-November, and its members have chosen to stay in the party.

Henriksen, a 72-year-old lawyer from Aalborg, was expelled on Tuesday when a majority of his 17 party colleagues voted to remove him in a written, secret ballot. He has held his Folketing seat for Venstre since 2011 and continues as an independent. "As I am five metres from the door, I can hear someone begin to clap," he told DR.

"It was not an ovation from Idrætsparken. It was scattered applause."

Party chairman Troels Lund Poulsen had told the group it must henceforth vote together and not "east and west. Henriksen and four others voted against the party line on the fertiliser law, which gives Danish farmers quotas for their nitrogen emissions to fjords and coasts. "I have sat in the Folketing for more than 15 years, and I think I must say that this day is a bit special," he told TV 2 Nord.

In a corridor afterwards, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen put her arms around him. "I don't know what is happening with you, but you get a hug," she said. Both are from Aalborg and were elected in North Jutland.
