Nearly 70 percent of residents in the Westman Islands say they are satisfied with the work of Mayor Íris Róbertsdóttir, according to a new Gallup poll. The survey shows 30.8 percent of respondents were very satisfied and 35.6 percent were somewhat satisfied with her performance since she took office in 2018. Only 23.1 percent were somewhat dissatisfied and 10.4 percent were very dissatisfied.
Despite this strong approval rating, more voters intend to support the Independence Party than the H-list, or 'For Heimaey,' in upcoming elections. The poll, conducted between January 15 and February 2, found the Independence Party leading with 43.9 percent support. The H-list followed with 27.3 percent, the Eyja List with 19.7 percent, and the Centre Party at 9.2 percent. It’s important to note that these results reflect voter sentiment before the Centre Party announced its candidacy and before the H-list confirmed whether it would run.
Currently, the majority of the Westman Islands municipal council consists of representatives from the H-list and the Eyja List. The Gallup survey highlights continued public confidence in Mayor Íris Róbertsdóttir’s leadership even as political preferences shift ahead of local elections.
