Norwegians have saved 19.8 billion kroner in the first year of the fixed electricity price scheme known as norgespris, the government says. The preliminary figure covers payments to households and holiday homes up to 1 October this year, VG and NRK reported.

Energy Minister Terje Aasland (Ap) said the development in electricity prices in 2026 shows that norgespris has been important. "Norgespris has given people more predictable electricity bills and security for their wallets," Aasland said in a press release.

The current norgespris agreement runs until 31 December 2026. From 2027, customers must actively order again if they still want norgespris, even if they already have it, the government says. It is not yet possible to register for next year.

The fixed price has been 40 øre/kWh plus VAT. The government has proposed raising it to 45 øre/kWh from next year. Several of the government's budget partners on the red-green side do not want the increase, and the final price will be decided in budget negotiations next month.

Ordering for 2027 will open after the Storting adopts the state budget for 2027, the Ministry of Energy said. The exact time will be announced shortly.

The government says there were just over 1.95 million norgespris orders on 23 October. About 79 percent of households and 84 percent of cabins in South-West Norway (NO2) have signed up. The government said norgespris is well received where electricity prices have been highest.

Norgespris has mainly paid off in South Norway. In North Norway, electricity prices have traditionally been so low that the fixed price of 40 øre/kWh has not paid off. In Mid-Norway (NO3), norgespris has mostly been cheaper than the spot price in most months so far.

Customers who do not choose norgespris receive electricity support. When the spot price in individual hours exceeds 77 øre/kWh without VAT, the support covers 90 percent of the price above that level. Norgespris is ordered on Elhub, where customers can also see how much they have saved so far.
