Oslo authorities will hold an information meeting Tuesday afternoon for residents evacuated after Sunday's rockslide near Carl Berners plass. The meeting follows geological surveys of the affected area.
Between 300 and 400 people were evacuated when large boulders fell behind a student housing complex in Oslo. Two massive rock slabs stopped just before hitting the building.
Approximately 220 of the displaced residents are students. The student welfare organization SiO, which owns the property, says its priority is improving conditions for affected students through cooperation with city officials.
"We understand the unpredictable situation about when people can return home or access their belongings is challenging," SiO said in a statement. "We're working closely with emergency services and the municipality to find solutions that allow students to retrieve necessary items from their homes."
Geologists scanned the area Monday afternoon to create 3D images for better safety assessment. It remains unclear when evacuated residents might return home.
The information meeting will take place at 2 PM at the Alna evacuation center. Both SiO and police representatives will attend, with a press briefing scheduled afterward.
This incident highlights the geological challenges facing construction in Oslo's hilly terrain, where rockfalls occasionally threaten residential areas despite safety measures.
