Solna has now successfully cleared a skating path on Brunnsviken. The delay occurred because the city’s new ice maintenance provider did not initially hold the required certification for measuring ice depth and performing snow clearing operations. As of Thursday, a five-meter-wide skating trail has been plowed starting from Stallmästaregården along the lake. On Friday, Solna’s association chief Elin Vrij confirmed the completion of the work. She stressed that safety is the highest priority for skaters who have been waiting to enjoy scenic tours on the frozen lake. Vrij noted that several people in the Stockholm area have already fallen through the ice this winter, which underscores the importance of caution. She reminded the public that ice tends to be weaker near inlets and outlets, straits, shallow areas, reed beds, docks, sewage outflows, bridges, and headlands. Skaters are advised to avoid these locations even when official paths are open. The newly cleared route offers a safe option for those looking to skate, but only within the officially maintained and inspected section. Residents are encouraged to stick to the marked trail and remain aware of natural ice hazards elsewhere on the lake.
