Hmouda Mohamed Hedi is one of about 40 residents evacuated after a major fire at Tjärna ängar in Borlänge. He woke up when police knocked on his door. The fire damaged multiple apartments in central Sweden.

Maria Bergfält, CEO of housing company Tunabyggen, confirmed they are searching for new apartments for the displaced residents. She said in a statement that residents likely cannot return to their homes soon. The company manages the affected property in this city 200 km northwest of Stockholm.

Local authorities are coordinating temporary housing solutions. Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the blaze that required multiple emergency response units.

This evacuation highlights Sweden's ongoing housing shortage challenges. Finding immediate accommodation for 40 people during a housing crisis presents real logistical difficulties for municipal authorities.
