Train Chaos Hits Western Sweden with Multiple Disruptions
Train services in western Sweden's Skaraborg region faced multiple disruptions Friday. A moose collision and subsequent incident caused extensive cancellations. Rail operators struggled to restore normal service throughout the evening.

Multiple train incidents caused major disruptions in Skaraborg, western Sweden on Friday afternoon and evening. A wildlife collision and a grass fire led to widespread cancellations and delays across the region.
The evening's first stoppage occurred when a train hit a moose near Herrljunga. Railway officials had to clear the animal from the tracks before service could resume. Leila Fogelholm from national rail operator SJ said at 7:30 PM, "It's a standard procedure except for removing the moose."
SJ could not initially estimate how long the cleanup would take. They hoped to restore service quickly. Then another incident occurred on the same line later that evening. This continued to block all train traffic.
Moose collisions present real safety challenges on Swedish railways, especially in rural areas. Having two separate incidents on one Friday evening shows how vulnerable regional rail infrastructure can be. Travelers faced clear frustration with no immediate solutions.
Skaraborg County lies in Sweden's Västergötland region, known for its agricultural landscapes and frequent wildlife near rail corridors.
