A defense grenade was found at Solgård waste site in Moss in Østfold, and the site is closed until further notice. Police reported the incident just before 10 on Thursday, according to Aftenposten, according to VG.
Police and the Armed Forces are assessing how to handle the grenade, operations leader Nikolai Mathisen said.
Bengt Gundersen, department manager at the waste site, said an employee found the grenade and notified him. "We have followed our routines and evacuated personnel and residents," Gundersen said. He and ten to fifteen employees were outside the facility after the area was evacuated.
The grenade was placed by the collection point for electronic and hazardous waste. Gundersen said that was very unfortunate because of the potential damage if it went off. "It is as inconvenient as it can be," he said.
He added that it was good the grenade did not end up in a container or get ignited, and that it is being handled as live because they do not know whether it is live.
The police bomb squad is on the case and is in dialogue with the Armed Forces about handling, Gundersen said. The waste site is in an industrial area with several businesses, which have also been informed. Movar communications chief Rolf-Ivar Buerengen told Moss Avis that explosives sometimes arrive in the waste, and that routines are followed.
A tipster told Moss Avis he was going to deliver trash and was told firmly to turn around.
