An already imprisoned doctor could be sentenced today for raping nine more patients at care facilities in Uppsala and Stockholm, SVT reported. One of the nine was a child.

The man has denied all the accusations against him.

The case began last spring, when news that a doctor in Region Uppsala had been arrested on suspicion of raping four patients drew wide attention. More victims then came forward, and the Court of Appeal convicted him, despite his denial, and sentenced him to eight years in prison for raping nine patients.

New reports against the man started arriving during the trial, covering assaults that took place before he was arrested. "It was the same approach as in the earlier crimes," chief prosecutor Gunnar Brodin said. "I have never encountered anything like it in my 33 years as a prosecutor."

The young men had sought care for sensitive conditions but were raped instead of receiving help. "It is such a betrayal," said Kerstin Karlqvist Falk, a midwife and former colleague of the doctor, who described the news as a shock. "Of course it is one of the biggest investigations I have been involved in," said Jens Zackaroff, one of the police investigators.

SVT Nyheter Uppsala will publish a short documentary about the doctor and his crimes on Saturday.
