Sweden's GDP fell 0.7 percent in September compared with the previous month, seasonally adjusted, according to the preliminary compilation of the GDP indicator from Statistics Sweden (SCB).

For the third quarter as a whole, GDP was 0.4 percent higher than in the previous quarter. Calendar-adjusted GDP for September was 2.1 percent higher than in the same month the previous year, while GDP for the quarter as a whole was 2.8 percent higher than in the third quarter of 2025.

"The Swedish economy backed off in September, but the quarter as a whole increased due to strong development in August," said Neda Shahbazi, national economist at SCB.

The GDP indicator gives an early picture of developments in gross domestic product. It is compiled monthly and quarterly on a more limited and preliminary statistical basis than the regular quarterly national accounts. The indicator's monthly outcome falls outside the official statistics and is classified as statistics under development.

Before reconciliation, the September data showed actual GDP development of 1.5 percent from the use side and 2.9 percent from the production side, both compared with the same month the previous year. That gave a reconciled actual development of 2.2 percent before adjustment for the number of working days and adaptation to quarterly GDP. For the quarter, the use side was 2.2 percent and the production side 3.4 percent, resulting in a reconciled actual development of 2.8 percent.

Both September and the quarter as a whole had the same number of working days as the corresponding periods the previous year. Under the indicator's revision policy, the months of July and August were recalculated in this round.
