Driver Hits Road Sign and Electrical Box in Bedsted, Leaves Scene

A 60-year-old woman drove into a road sign and electrical box in Bedsted, Denmark, then left the scene without reporting the incident. The collision occurred around 1:08 AM Sunday on Vestervigvej road in the Thy region.

Police say the woman from Sydthy municipality first struck a road sign, then hit an electrical cabinet. She continued driving and left the area without stopping.

An alert witness observed the incident and contacted authorities. Police later located the woman and charged her with traffic law violations for leaving an accident scene.

Officials confirmed only material damage occurred to the woman's vehicle. No injuries were reported from the incident.

Police emphasized that while minor accidents might only require contacting the local municipality, nighttime incidents should be reported to police immediately. The driver failed to notify either authority.

Authorities have now informed Thisted Municipality and utility company TDC about the damage to public property.

This case highlights Denmark's strict traffic regulations requiring drivers to report accidents, especially those involving public infrastructure. Leaving accident scenes can result in serious penalties even when no injuries occur.
