A fire broke out in a building near a school in Vällingby, western Stockholm on Saturday afternoon. Emergency services found one person inside the smoke-filled structure.
Rescue teams located the individual during their search operation. "We can confirm we found a person in the building," said Lena Hoffman, operations leader for the rescue service. Police reported the person was unconscious and transported to a hospital.
The fire caused heavy smoke development from the attic of the approximately 100-square-meter building. Multiple emergency resources remain on scene, including police and ambulance crews working alongside fire personnel.
Hoffman provided an update on the situation, stating, "The fire is declining and moving in the right direction. We see a good prognosis."
The cause of the blaze remains unclear. Rescue services confirm there is no risk of the fire spreading to adjacent buildings.
Firefighters estimate extinguishing work will continue until 8 PM tonight. Police have classified the incident as grossly negligent endangerment to the public.
Vällingby represents one of Stockholm's notable suburban districts, developed during the 1950s as part of the city's expansion program. The area contains numerous residential buildings, schools, and commercial establishments in close proximity.
While emergency response appears effective in this case, the incident highlights fire safety concerns in Stockholm's older suburban structures where buildings often stand close together.
