A former preschool principal in Jönköping municipality went on trial at Jönköpings tingsrätt on Tuesday, accused of buying luxury furniture and designer lamps worth more than one million kronor and then reselling them, SVT reported. The hearing lasted a single day.
According to the charge, over a three-year period the principal ordered furniture that was either kept or resold. The total sum involved was 1,148,808 kronor, according to the indictment. The purchases were made for the preschools in 2025, and the items were then sold through various sales websites, bringing in several hundred thousand kronor.
The principal was dismissed and charged with gross breach of trust. The former principal has admitted the offence.
Erik Nilsson, education director in Jönköping municipality, said the deception hit staff hard. "Many people were angry that we were deceived by someone we trusted," he said. "Of course we had to review our routines. The municipality has since made several changes to prevent anything similar from happening again.
SVT said it was present at the trial and would report from the courtroom.
