NRK has approved 106 applications for severance packages from employees. The Norwegian public broadcaster said 184 people applied in total.

Fifty-one applications were rejected because of critical core competence and task development. Ten people withdrew their applications, and the remaining 16 are still being processed.

"To continue being the NRK that brings people together, engages and stays close to the whole country, we must develop the way we work," said NRK broadcasting director Vibeke Fürst Haugen. "We will build an organization where new tools, roles and common workflows become a more natural part of all of NRK, so that we can use more of our time on what creates value."

NRK aims to have between 300 and 400 fewer employees by the end of 2028.

Chess profile Ole Rolfsrud is among those who have taken a severance package. After 23 years at NRK, he has decided to try something new.

"I have built up a lot of knowledge and experience, and I still have an awful lot of drive, curiosity, passion and desire to work, which means I now want to challenge myself outside NRK," Rolfsrud told VG.
