A massive landslide struck Oslo's Carl Berner district on Sunday afternoon. The 20-meter wide rock slide forced over 300 residents to evacuate immediately.

Residents in buildings above the landslide returned home Tuesday morning. Students living in buildings below the slide face continued hotel stays.

Student welfare organization officials confirmed affected students would remain in hotels for several days. The organization's director stated this arrangement would continue throughout the week.

Despite the evacuation order, students gathered outside their building Tuesday evening. Fire department and geological experts determined it was safe for brief entry to retrieve essential items.

Emilie Pedersen expressed concern about her belongings inside. "I'm thinking about all my clothes and school things still in there," she said.

Students received just five minutes to collect necessities before exiting. Many focused on retrieving school materials and clothing for immediate needs.

Sanna and Magnus stood in line to collect school supplies. "We need clothes and computers for school," Sanna explained. Magnus quickly added "And PlayStation!" to the list.

Both described the situation as unfortunate but acknowledged limited options. For Markus, the evacuation proved particularly abrupt.

"I had to evacuate wearing only swim trunks and a towel," he recalled. "I was in the sauna with friends." He successfully retrieved clothes, computer, and books during the brief access period.

Markus emphasized the importance of patience during the extended displacement. He found one silver lining: "We get hotel breakfast. I wouldn't mind being evacuated multiple times."

Ben Lucas Skywalker Brekke faced his own packing challenges. He had prepared a bag during the initial evacuation but forgot it during the rushed exit.

"I barely knew what to bring today," he admitted. "But I got some clothes and these glasses. I'm glad to have them back.

Cleanup operations began Tuesday evening with workers removing loose rocks and soil. The student welfare organization committed to maintaining hotel accommodations through the week.

Affected buildings include Hasleveien 9 and 11. Officials stated hotel support would continue until safe return becomes possible.

"This is a demanding situation for students," the organization wrote. "Our first priority is assisting those affected."

Oslo municipality dispatched geologists to assess the landslide area Sunday night. Their evaluation maintained evacuation orders for buildings above and below the slide.

A smaller slide occurred in the same area Monday morning, according to municipal reports.

Geological experts describe the area as an older rock cutting. It was likely excavated during site preparation before housing construction.

The landslide occurred near the Student House at Hasleveien 9-11, built in 2002. Adjacent residential buildings Sukkertoppveien 1, 3 and 5 were constructed later.

Geological assessments continue as officials monitor stability. Experts cannot rule out additional slides in the area.

This landslide highlights the challenges of building in Oslo's varied terrain. The city's rapid development sometimes encounters geological realities that demand careful management.
